 Making Things Work Better

Microsoft Vista :: Unable to connect to WiFi
|
Connection to WiFi networks has been made easier with Vista.
Some problems exist though getting an IP address from DHCP servers because Microsoft changed how they use the DHCP protocol between XP and Vista.
Our experience was that WEP connections worked but WPA and WPA2 would not work. This
shows itself as just a failed connection attempt or a poor connection. Looking at the WiFi logs you will see an association but it ends there.
Microsoft have an article on this to show how to change the registry to allow Microsoft's DHCP client to work properly with all DHCP servers.
Follow
this link and follow the instructions carefully. It works!
Alternatively -
Not hugely desirable but if you can configure your router to always use the DHCP BROADCAST flag this will also resolve the issue. It will
however add extra network traffic which is not a great outcome....but tolerable. Having said this we have had little success in making
this work and have tended toward the Microsoft registry solution above.
If you wish to try it though then for ISC DHCP servers this means change the conf
file to include "always-broadcast true;" |
